Foraging in South-East London, now who would have thought it!
Given the current state of affairs with our British ‘summertide’ weather, I scuttled around the provincial areas of South-East London in a fraught attempt to relive a joyous, yet nostalgic childhood past-time of ‘blackberry picking’.
Surprisingly, as I traversed deep within the ‘wilderness’ of South-East London suburbia, I happened to unearth a ‘gem’ of a spot! However, One is sworn to secrecy, and under no circumstances will Miss Windsor disclose the whereabouts of her very own snippet of a thriving foragers paradise.
In fact, as I take a jaunt down memory lane, I recall that every year armed with a Tupperware vessel little me would join forces with Mother in order to scour the bountiful West-Country hedgerows, in search of a bumper crop of purply plump blackberries! Oh, and what wonderful memories I have of Mother's mouth-watering, West-Countryfied version of Apple and Blackberry Crumble.
Darlings, this year I decided to follow Mother’s tradition and baked an Apple and Blackberry Crumble using foraged South-East London blackberries. However, my recipe is completely gluten-free, vegan, and with no ‘white sugar’ insight – How spiffing!
If your diet allows, enjoy with a splash of custard. Please note: only Birds, egg-free custard will do for Miss Windsor - plus it’s completely vegan!
